My Late Night Bouquet

DSC04611F

Last night I got the urge to do something I almost never do. I cut flowers from the garden and brought them into the house. I was checking the side bed of the house in the early evening to see what maintenance it needed and I spied ‘Lovely Girl’ and ‘Acapulco’ blooming and I decided to put them in a vase. I don’t know why I’m so reluctant to take blooms from the garden. Last night the lilies filled my bedroom with such a sweet scent! Hope everyone has a wonderful day.

    1. Darla,
I think I’m hesitant to cut them because I think it takes away from the garden. But with the heat I’m inside more than out so I decided to keep a vase of them for me to enjoy inside. The Coneflowers are making a nice patch and I couldn’t be happier about it. :0)

    1. Phillip,
I’ve started using the tripod you gave me more and I’m experimenting a lot with speed and aperture. I used the light on the old stand behind it and then slowed the camera speed down until I got the photo I wanted. I took several, but considering how dark the room was I thought it came out pretty good.

  3. I know what you mean about cutting flowers! I cannot cut them as I feel like I am killing them! Plus I have two cats that will eat them so I must put them high out of reach. So high, that I cannot enjoy them. So my blooms remain in the garden. Sigh....

    1. The blooms are so few in the garden right now Skeeter I feel like if I cut them there just won't be anything. Nothing really seems to be producing much for me this year. Right now even the knock outs have stopped blooming.

    2. My trusty Butterfly Bushes are always blooming. They are my salvation when nothing else is showing color....

    1. Tina,
It has a very strong perfume. I had it in my bedroom, but had to move it to the kitchen. You can smell in all over the house. It was just too much by my bed, like one of those people that bathes in perfume or cologne. You know what I mean? LOL

  6. Hi Randy, I say to enjoy the flowers both inside and outside.... George brings a rose into the house in a vase for me most every day this time of year. That means so much to me. AND---we do bring other flowers inside on occasion. YES--the lilies smell fabulous when they are inside!!!!!

    Your bouquet is gorgeous...

    Have a great day.

  7. Hello there Randy !
I have meant so many times to stop by and chat with you here. I am either in the garden or dead tired from working in the garden and there is this tiny window of time that I am still upright to chat .. I love you bouquet it is beautiful and I can only imagine how wonderful it smells .. it gets very hot and humid here in Kingston .. when they start telling us what it is with the humidex , well I start hiding in the house with the AC .. in the area of 40+ Celsius at times .. funny enough and I'm sure you know this , it can be so humid and yet the garden is bone dry .. that is the time you want to water at say 5 AM in the morning so you don't keel over ? LOL
I was working in the garden this afternoon and if it wasn't for the breeze .. well I wouldn't be there I think .. I found places for new plants except one (I even broke down and bought "Little Lime" hydrangea when I swore I had enough hydrangea!
This cute rose "Topsy Turvy" caught my eye but it is the one last plant I haven't found a home for yet .. maybe tomorrow .. if I can get out of bed ! haha
Hey ... it was nice to chat with you again : )

    1. Joy,
I really can't wait to increase the hydrangeas in my garden. I just need a little more shade. It's so good to see you paying a visit to the blog.

  8. Hi Randy... I'm exactly the same way.... I virtually never do bouquets for the house... I guess I figure the blooms last better in the gardens and that's where I generally am unless I'm in the glass studio or wood shop. The one exception is gladiolas... we grow those specifically for the house and I really don't care for their appearance in the gardens... do love them inside though. Generally there are a number of orchids blooming in the house anyway and during the winter there are so many houseplants... I like things a bit more minimalist and easy to maintain inside in the summer... Larry

    1. I hear you on the "easy to Maintain" I bet that beautiful garden of yours is a handful during the growing season. You are very lucky to have that well for watering. I have a drip system in the garden and it does a pretty good job, I never have to water by hand. I've always believed though that the chlorine in the water was really bad for my plants.

P.S. Your lamps are positively flawless. Do you ever do panels for hanging?

  11. Just beautiful Randy. You made such a great arrangement. I too struggle with cutting flowers from the garden. I don't know why. ~~Dee
